Parents & Family
What should parents and family know about our program?
Engineering is an extremely demanding academic program. Students in the program typically spend well over 40 hours per week on classes, labs, assignments, and studying. The labs associated with the courses are particularly important, as they provide hands-on learning for our students, so it is critical that they attend these. Because of the challenging nature of the program, it is very important for our students to have the support of their families. As a parent or family member, you should be aware of the many resources available for students. We encourage you to take some time to explore our website and learn about these resources. In addition, there are a number of events that parents and family are often interested in attending, such as What is Engineering?; Convocation; Fourth-Year Project Day; and the Iron Ring Ceremony. Even though it can demanding, meeting the challenges of an engineering program provides students and their families with a deep sense of accomplishment!
