$800,000 in Funding Announced for Oil and Gas Research

The Petroleum Technology Research Centre and the University of Regina are receiving over $800,000 in federal and provincial funding through the Western Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA) to support research into innovative oil and gas production technologies including technologies to help reduce the environmental impacts of production.

The funding will be used to purchase and install laboratory equipment at the U of R to develop novel membranes for reclaiming produced water, and PTRC will use the funding to expand research on an evaluation of organic nutrient sources across Saskatchewan as part of furthering research into microbial enhanced oil recovery.  PTRC will also build field test trailors to sample produced water in order to identify the potential of reclaming and reusing the water in agricultural applications and other industries.

The announcement was made jointly by Ray Boughen, MP for Palliser, representing the federal government, and Government Services Minister Laura Ross representing the Province.  More details can be found in the LeaderPost.
